31 March 2026 once again marks the statutory deletion deadline for digital tachograph data. In accordance with the applicable regulations, this data is subject to a limited retention period and must be deleted once that period has expired.
This annual deadline ensures that the storage and processing of driver and vehicle data remain fully compliant with legal requirements and applicable data protection and regulatory provisions.
The deletion applies exclusively to data from digital tachographs for which the statutory retention period has expired. This period is generally one year, but may vary in certain cases, particularly where the data is still required to fulfil statutory record-keeping and documentation obligations, for example in connection with working time records or payroll processing. In such cases, the relevant legal provisions and retention periods apply. A more detailed explanation of the legal background and the relevant distinctions can be found in our article on the Deletion Deadline for Tachograph Data – 31 March 2024 .
All other data relating to your subscribed TSI services, in particular location, positioning and telematics data, is not affected and will remain available in accordance with the respective data retention period of the TSI solutions in use. The statutory deletion requirement therefore applies exclusively to the relevant tachograph and driver card data.
For users of TSI’s solutions, the legally required deletion is carried out automatically in line with the configured retention periods.
As a customer, please ensure before the deletion deadline that the configured retention period meets your operational and statutory requirements. The current settings can be reviewed in the TSI Portal under Management / Drivers / Driver Compliance.
The deletion of tachograph data is required by law and takes place at a fixed statutory deadline once the applicable retention period has expired. Further information on the legal background can be found in our 2024 article, which also provides additional guidance on possible extended retention periods, for example in connection with working time records.
